Built through years of competing and coaching
Mathieu Garcia played NCAA Division I tennis at the University of Portland.
After his playing career, Mathieu moved into coaching — serving as an assistant coach at the University of Portland and working with Rip City Tennis, where he helped grow a tennis academy from the ground up.
Garcia Tennis Academy is the next step in that same path: building an environment where players get the same purposeful coaching and competitive standards that shaped his own career.
Focus on what you can control.
Tennis is a game of uncertainty. We can't control the weather, our opponent, bad line calls, or the outcome of a match — but we can control how we prepare, how we respond to adversity, and how we choose to compete every day.
We don't define success solely by wins and losses. We define it by the habits and decisions players make each day. When athletes consistently focus on the right process, the results tend to take care of themselves.
Effort
Bring your best every day, regardless of the circumstances.
Attitude
Approach challenges with positivity, resilience, and a willingness to learn.
Ownership
Take responsibility for your development and embrace both successes and setbacks.
Intensity
Practice with purpose, focus, and energy.
How We Compete
Show composure, respect, and courage in every match.
These principles shape every practice, every lesson, and every tournament. Our goal isn't simply to develop better tennis players — it's to help young athletes become confident, disciplined, and resilient individuals. The lessons learned through tennis, handling adversity, taking responsibility, staying composed under pressure, extend far beyond the court.
Because coaching should be about more than strokes.
Garcia Tennis Academy was founded with a simple belief: great coaching is about more than teaching forehands and backhands. Our goal is to help players become complete competitors by developing their technical skills, tactical understanding, work ethic, confidence, and love for improvement.
Whether a player is preparing for their first tournament or pursuing college tennis, every athlete receives purposeful coaching in an environment that values effort, ownership, and long-term development.
